Who I Am
After 30 years of social work practice and 10 years of teaching writing, I remain passionate about helping people uncover deeper thoughts, gain clarity, and reconnect with what matters most through the simple act of writing.
My method of therapeutic writing offers a unique path to clarity. During sessions, people often uncover thoughts they didn't know were there. What begins as simple writing can lead to surprising insight, emotional clarity, and a deeper understanding of what matters most.
Trees & Breathe began in 2020 while I was teaching post-secondary writing courses. When the world shut down, I noticed many of my students struggling with the uncertainty, isolation, and fear we were all experiencing. I knew this fear was impeding many students' ability to learn.
I also knew that writing helps access thoughts that conversation alone often doesn’t reach.
The impact was powerful. I soon began offering similar writing experiences to the wider community. By combining therapeutic writing, mindfulness practices, and nature-based reflection, Trees & Breathe was born.
What I Offer
I guide clouded minds to
find their way through
a deep forest of thoughts.
To help you find clarity, I offer online and in-person sessions. In every Trees & Breathe session, I will guide you to immerse in the moment, allowing your mind and body to relax. This will set you up to:
uncover deep thoughts through writing.
create space for new clarity to emerge.
make decisions that nourish rather than stress.
Every therapeutic writing session is a personal, private journey that guides you to where you truly want to be.
While my primary tool is therapeutic writing, I am also trained in Solution Focused Counselling, Yoga, and Forest Bathing. I incorporate aspects of these modalities when designing the session for you. If we hit a block during our session, we can gently weave these in further to help you move forward.
Your wellness is at the heart of what I do.
The Trees & Breathe method is grounded in three proven wellness strategies. This is how we use them in every session:
1. Writing methods to provide you with a safe space to dig into your thoughts and privately release them on paper. This strategy allows you to experience the powerful relationship between writing and thinking. You might just discover what you really need to know and start seeing your life through a clearer mind.
2. Mindfulness techniques to practice grounding into the present - what is happening right now - without judgment or analysis. This helps you to ease the need to worry about the past or the future and creates an opening for peace and truth to emerge.
3. Nature prompts to ease you into a calm state to bring a sense of perspective and strength. This can help to view your life situations in a more manageable way.
