A few simple steps to help you uncover what truly matters to you.
Guided Journaling: Going Deeper
Guided journaling removes that filter. It invites you to write freely and discover the root of your thoughts—the answers to your “whys.” It goes beyond venting, offering deep self-awareness and lasting calm. You may walk away from a guided journaling session feeling clearer and better equipped to handle challenges.
The trees&breathe Guided Journaling Method
More than just prompts, the trees&breathe Guided Journaling Method combines three powerful pillars: writing strategies, mindfulness tools, and nature prompts. Together, they create a calm space that helps you take a deep dive into your thoughts and come up for air with clarity.
Each session begins with mindful breathing to settle into the present. You then focus on simple nature prompts—whether in person or online—to quiet mental noise. Guided step by step, you learn to bypass your inner critic and write from a deeper place. This is where your roots—your truths—emerge. And once they do, it’s hard to go back to surface-level thinking.
Try It Yourself
As the new year approaches, try being kind to yourself—not with rigid resolutions, but with achievable ones rooted in truth. Here’s a simple guided journaling exercise to help you uncover what truly matters to you.
Step 1: Find a quiet space, silence distractions, and grab a notebook and pen.
Step 2: Write this sentence: I want to start the year with. Set a 3-minute timer and complete this sentence with whatever comes to mind. Don’t stop, edit, or reread.
BTW: Be honest with yourself for the best results. This is private—no one will see your writing.
Step 3: When time’s up, read your writing and underline a word, phrase, or sentence that stands out (you don’t have to know why, it just does).
Step 4: On a new page, write By [your chosen word, phrase, sentence], I mean… and set the timer for another 3 minutes. Complete this sentence with whatever comes to mind and continue writing until the time is up. Remember, no stopping until the time is up.
Step 5: Read and underline everything that catches your attention.
Step 6: On a fresh page, list those words or phrases under the heading I’d like to learn more about…
Step 7: In 45 seconds, rank your list by what feels most important—trust your first instinct.
Congratulations! You’ve uncovered what’s been at the root of your thoughts. These discoveries can guide gentle, achievable resolutions—and help you move into the new year with clarity and self-understanding.
